Cycle Monitoring and Follicle Tracking
What is Cycle Monitoring?
It is vital for every patient’s care to be individualized. Cycle monitoring is often the first step in any treatment plan in order to understand the patient’s menstrual cycle, time of ovulation and to help identify the fertile time of the month and so improve the chances of natural conception.
Cycle monitoring is required with ovulation induction as there is a higher chance of hyper-ovulation and multiple pregnancies.
Who is it for?
Any patient wishing to undergo any fertility treatment is advised to undertake cycle monitoring.
How does it work?
To monitor your cycle you will need to have a scan and blood test at the start of your period and a further scan mid cycle, depending on the patient there may be a requirement for further scans. Hormone tests and ultrasound scans can help pinpoint the fertile time in your cycle, helping to improve your chance of conception.
The scans are performed trans-vaginally which is a straightforward and painless procedure. During the scan the lining of the uterus is also measured and assessed. The ovaries are examined to determine the number and size of follicles.
A further blood test is taken to confirm ovulation has occurred and the whole cycle with relevant blood tests and investigations will be analyzed. The results will be explained to you at the end of your cycle with a personalized plan for your treatment.
